π — Party of Intellect · A new political party in Tamil Nadu

Public decisions should be made on evidence, explained honestly, and measured openly.

π is a new political party for Tamil Nadu. On this page we separate what we believe, what we propose, how we are governed, and what we are still working out — so you can judge us on the record.

Founded in Chennai · 15 August 2026 Founding phase Contesting 2029 & 2031
“We do not ask you to trust us. We ask you to check us.” — our stated aim
01 · Who we are

An institution, not a personality.

π is in its founding phase, building membership and preparing to register with the Election Commission of India. We intend to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha and 2031 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

01

People first

You decide what matters and where we are going.

02

Evidence always

Plans are tested against facts before they are promised.

03

Power accountable

Our money, decisions and mistakes are open to scrutiny.

02 · Method

Technodemocracy

Technodemocracy is democracy informed by evidence. It is not rule by experts.

PeopleChoose the destination — what kind of Tamil Nadu we want.
ValuesDefine what matters most: fairness, dignity, opportunity.
EvidenceTests which routes can actually get us there.
ExpertiseDesigns the solution and explains costs and risks.
DemocracyMakes the decision through elected, accountable representatives.
InstitutionsMeasure the result and make sure no one owns the road.

Evidence can tell you what a policy will do. It cannot tell you what you should care about.

On facts, evidence decides. On values, we vote — and say so openly.
03 · Beliefs

Three pillars, six convictions.

Right education, evidence-based decision-making and operational efficiency are our three pillars.

PILLAR

Right education

Education that develops the ability to question claims, weigh evidence and apply learning.

PILLAR

Evidence-based decisions

Every policy states what evidence supports it and what could change it.

PILLAR

Operational efficiency

Public spending is judged over its lifetime, not only by its opening price.

Make honesty the easy pathCorruption has become a habit across the system. It can be tamed by design, so ordinary people need not be heroes to be honest.
Accountability runs both waysPublic servants answer to the public, and the public plays by the same rules.
Spend 2X once, not 10X againBuild it properly once rather than repair it every year.
Welfare that reaches peopleWho needs it, what it achieves, what it costs, and whether it can be delivered better.
The state should earn, not only taxPartnerships in critical sectors — only with open books, independent audit, a fair public share and a clear exit.
New ideas deserve a hearingIdeas are judged on evidence, not on the age or rank of the person proposing them.
04 · Policy areas

What changes in everyday life.

These are areas of work at different stages of development. Our education policy, for example, has deliberately not been written yet.

Roads

Shared infrastructure

The problem: roads are repeatedly opened for cables, water lines and telecom, while early failures leave contractors without clear accountability.

Our proposal: shared underground utility corridors and contractor liability for work that fails early.

Measurement: published figures on repair times and repeat road openings.

Land & housing

Full-value registration

The problem: the gap between registered and market prices is paid in hidden cash, which pushes up housing costs for everyone.

Our proposal: make honest, full-value registration the easier and cheaper route.

Measurement: publish the gap between registered and market prices.

Electricity

Reliable supply first

The problem: utility losses, below-cost supply and support that is not targeted at those who need it.

Our proposal: target support, improve farm metering and pumps, use off-peak supply, and reduce power lost between plant and home.

Measurement: published figures on power cuts, losses and who receives support.

Education

Discuss before prescribing

Current position: our education policy has deliberately not been written yet.

Our process: public discussion, including people who defend the current system, followed by proposals based on what we learn.

Measurement: publish areas of agreement, disagreement and missing evidence.

Public money

Costed promises

Every major promise comes with its cost, its funding source and an explanation of what happens if our assumptions turn out to be wrong.

Membership

Member voice

Members will elect the majority of the governing council. Joining asks for commitment rather than qualifications.

05 · Commitments

Rules you can test from day one.

Our commitments on finances, policy-making and internal accountability.

70:30 ruleAt least 70 paise of every rupee raised goes to programmes; no more than 30 paise goes to running costs.
Open accountsEvery rupee in and out is recorded, independently audited and published.
Every promise costedNo major promise is announced without its cost and source of money.
State what changes our mindEach policy states what evidence would make us change or drop it.
Criticism with an alternativeWhen we criticise a government decision, we publish our alternative and its cost.
Publish our strongest criticsA separate team tries to prove major policies wrong, and the objections are published alongside them.
Publish what went wrongEvery year: what we said, what happened, where we were mistaken and what we changed.
06 · Governance

Written down and fixed in advance.

An eleven-member Core Council governs π in the founding phase, growing to a larger council once verified membership reaches 2,000.

5 + 6Founding phase: five founding members and six rotating members serving three-year terms.
2,000Verified members: the threshold for moving to a fifteen-member council with ten rotating seats elected by members.
Founding phase

Decisions are made by vote, on the evidence placed before the Council, rather than by seniority.

At 2,000 verified members

The Council grows to fifteen, with ten rotating seats elected by members. Founders then hold less than one third of the Council.

Founding protections

The Founding Trustee holds limited powers during the founding phase, including blocking changes to our purpose, three pillars or 70:30 rule. No one person can touch the money, choose candidates or decide policy.

07 · Open questions

What we have not worked out yet.

These areas are still under development. We will not present them as settled policy until they are.

Social justice & equal opportunity

How to approach discrimination, representation, reservations and disadvantage, including a clearer account of what “merit” means for people who start further behind.

Healthcare

How healthcare should reach everyone who needs it.

Federalism

What Tamil Nadu should decide for itself and what belongs to the Union.

Rights & privacy

How an evidence-driven government can collect data without overreaching into private life.

“தெரியவில்லை” என்று சொல்வது பலவீனம் அல்ல.

Saying “we don’t know yet” is not weakness. It is the first step to finding out.
08 · How to read π

Four words to watch for.

We distinguish certainty, calculation, judgement and proposed action.

WE KNOW

Established

Supported by solid, independent evidence.

WE ESTIMATE

Calculated

Based on calculations and assumptions that we show you.

WE BELIEVE

Judgement

A value judgement or reasoned expectation where fair-minded people may disagree.

WE PROPOSE

A choice

The action we propose. You decide whether it is the right one.

09 · Questions

Joining politics, and joining π.

What people most often ask us about politics in Tamil Nadu and about π.

How can I join politics in Tamil Nadu?

The most direct route is to join a political party as a member, volunteer on real issues in your area, and build a record of work people can see. At π, you start by filling in the joining form on this page. A member of our team reads every submission and writes back. You do not need a political family, a degree or a patron to be heard.

Is π a new political party in Tamil Nadu?

Yes. π, the Party of Intellect, was founded in Chennai on 15 August 2026. It is in its founding phase and will apply for registration with the Election Commission of India under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Which elections will π contest?

π intends to contest the 2029 Lok Sabha election and the 2031 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. We begin in Tamil Nadu and will expand only after we have shown results here.

How is π different from DMK, AIADMK, TVK, BJP, Congress, NTK and other parties?

We do not define ourselves against any party. The differences are structural. π is not built around one leader; members will elect the majority of its governing council; at least 70% of its funds must go to programmes, with accounts independently audited and published; every major promise is published with its cost and funding source; and it takes no fixed left or right position.

Is π left-wing or right-wing?

Neither. Every decision must pass one test: it must help people now and help society in the long run, and both must be true. Where a policy lands on the left-right scale is a description others apply afterwards, not a rule we follow beforehand.

What is Technodemocracy?

Technodemocracy is democracy informed by evidence. People choose the destination, values define what matters, evidence tests the routes, experts design the solution, elected representatives make the decision, and institutions measure the result. It is not rule by experts.

Do I need money, a degree or political connections to join π?

No degree and no political connections are required. Joining asks for commitment: your identity is verified, you sign our pledge, and you take part. Any membership fee will be set openly and accounted for under the 70:30 rule.
